“I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself.” – Emma Stone
People find beauty in different things. Beauty is mostly represented in physical form, rather than its core. With International Women’s Day on the 8th of March and Mothers Day on the 31st, March is a month to celebrate the beauty that is womanhood.
Womanhood is my reality. As tough as it maybe, a woman is who I am and I have learnt to embrace all aspects of my being, especially in a world that is so male dominated.
Being ambitious and knowing exactly what I want and when I want it, has helped me get past a lot of hurdles in life. Not being traditionally tied to my parents and grandparents ways of doing things has helped me break that cycle of what women should and should not be doing.
On some days, I still hear my mothers voice saying “a woman should not be dressed like this.” On other days, I hear her saying I should not do certain things, because “when I get to my husbands house …”
How about when I get to my own house mum?
Being a woman is a full time role. From monthly periods and excruciating cramps, to child birth and child rearing, to getting marginalized and being offered lower pay rates or job roles, simply because woman.
The truth is that women are amazing people. So the drive for balance should be enforced not only in March, but every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every month of every year. A gender balanced world, is definitely a better thriving world.
So let’s balance better for this truth that is womanhood.
